Frequently asked questions:
How many emails per week should my organization send?
Through the NewsMatch Campaign Toolkit, there's roughly one per week, maybe a little bit less, with frequency ramping up around Giving Tuesday the end of the year. Generally, we're seeing a lot of newsrooms deploy one or two emails a week, definitely getting more emails concentrated around Giving Tuesday and around New Year's Eve.
How can I make the most of high-traffic days like Giving Tuesday?
On a day with high email volume like Giving Tuesday or the end of the year, you may want to consider sending multiple emails over the course of the day. In addition, create a sense of urgency for your audience by creating a one-day goal that you try to hit on that day.
How should I set a campaign goal for my organization?
We recommend setting goals based on past performance (if applicable). So if you ran a NewsMatch campaign in 2023: look at how many donors you got and how much you raised from that campaign, and then how this year overall is tracking compared to last year. If you raised $100,000 during NewsMatch 2023 and your organization is tracking 10% ahead of last year so far, $110,000 would be a logical goal.
If you don’t have past performance to base your goal(s) on, INN Pods provides NewsMatch campaign benchmarking broken out by outlet’s grouped by geographic scope of coverage, estimated audience size, revenue, and staff size. Please email hello@newsmatch.org to get access to Pod data.
