Match Caps, Partner Funds & Bonuses (2024)

Main Match Cap
The NewsMatch main match cap is the maximum amount that a news organization with annual expenses under $1 million will receive from NewsMatch. As of September 30, 2024, the campaign match cap is $15,000, which reflects the dollars that have been committed to date for NewsMatch 2024.
Individual Donor Match Cap
NewsMatch will match up to $1,000 in donations made by a single donor within the campaign period.

New Recurring Donor Boost
New recurring monthly donations or increases to existing recurring monthly donations are eligible to be matched at their 12-month value up to $1,000 per donor. For example, a donor who begins a $10 monthly gift started in November or December will yield a match of $120 ($10 × 12 months). The New Recurring Donor Boost is only open to newsrooms receiving main match funds or partner funds.
Knight Community Match Bonus
Newsrooms that secure community ("local") match funds to leverage during NewsMatch 2024 will receive a bonus award. Community match funds must have been pledged between January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024.
- Secure between $1,000 and $4,999 in local matches and receive a $1,000 bonus.
- Secure between $5,000 and $9,999 in local matches and receive a $2,000 bonus.
- Secure between $10,000 and $19,999 in local matches and receive a $3,500 bonus.
- Secure $20,000 or more in local matches and receive a $4,500 bonus.
New Donor Bonus
The New Donor Bonus is awarded to newsrooms for attracting new donors.
- Newsrooms with operating expenses under $1 million in 2023: Secure 50 or more new donors and receive a $1,000 bonus
- Newsrooms with operating expenses over $1 million in 2023: Secure 100 or more new donors and receive a $2,000 bonus
Partner Funds
Newsrooms eligible for partner funds will be notified via email on a rolling basis.
Partner fund eligibility is determined by NewsMatch’s funding partners; there are no additional steps you need to take for your organization to be considered for partner funds.
