Match Caps, Partner Funds & Bonuses (2023)

National Match Cap
The NewsMatch national match cap is the maximum amount that a news organization with annual expenses under $1 million will receive from NewsMatch. As of December 13, the campaign match cap is $15,000, which reflects the dollars that have been committed to date for NewsMatch 2023.

Individual Donor Match Cap
NewsMatch will match up to $1,000 in donations made by a single donor within the campaign period. Learn more about what donations are eligible to be matched by NewsMatch's national seed funds or partner funds here.
New Recurring Donor Boost
New recurring monthly donations are eligible to be matched at their 12-month value up to $1,000 per donor. For example, a donor who begins a $10 monthly gift started in November or December will yield a match of $120 ($10 × 12 months). The New Recurring Donor Boost is only open to those newsrooms receiving national match funds or any organizations receiving partner funds.
Knight Community Match Bonus
Newsrooms that secure community ("local") match funds to leverage during NewsMatch 2023 will receive a bonus award. Community match funds must have been pledged between January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023.
- Secure between $1,000 and $4,999 in local matches and receive a $500 bonus.
- Secure between $5,000 and $9,999 in local matches and receive a $1,000 bonus.
- Secure between $10,000 and $19,999 in local matches and receive a $2,000 bonus.
- Secure $20,000 or more in local matches and receive a $3,000 bonus.
New Donor Bonus
The New Donor Bonus is awarded to newsrooms for attracting new donors.
- Newsrooms with operating expenses under $1 million in 2022: Secure 50 or more new donors and receive a $500 bonus
- Newsrooms with operating expenses over $1 million in 2022: Secure 100 or more new donors and receive a $1,000 bonus
Partner Funds
All newsrooms eligilbe for partner funds have been notified via email as of December 13, 2023. We do not expect additional partner funds to be awarded for the 2023 campaign.
