NewsMatch 2025 Campaign Debrief

INN’s NewsMatch exists to help newsrooms build community support.

In a culture where most Americans don’t pay for news, the program provides a proven pathway to convert audiences into donors and deepen community investment in journalism. It democratizes philanthropy. This is news powered, in part, by the people.

In 2025, participating newsrooms leveraged match funds, fundraising training, and turnkey resources to build and diversify their donor bases:

  • Participating newsrooms surpassed 100,000 new donors for the first time this campaign, attracting 34% more first-time donors during their campaign than during the same period last year.
  • Newsrooms brought on more of their own match funding than was provided by NewsMatch for the fourth year in a row. 68% of participating newsrooms secured their own match funds via local matches, the highest share in program history.
