NewsMatch 2023 Campaign Debrief
During the 2023 NewsMatch campaign, the combination of matching funds, training and tools, and donor education enabled participating newsrooms to drive community support:
- Newsrooms saw strong performance among individual donors, raising over $47 million from November 1 to December 31 (the highest amount in program history). New donors grew 20% compared to 2022.
- Community support outpaced national support for the second year in a row. Local matches secured by newsrooms from nearly 1,000 community foundations, local businesses, major donors, and more, surpassed $6.1 million.
- Newsrooms leveraged over $6 million in investments from national funders to generate community support. 88% of the program budget was invested directly into newsrooms via matching funds, goal-based bonuses and capacity-building services. (Questions about how funds are allocated? Learn more here).
