Managing your profile on INN's new discovery site

Thursday, September 30  • 1 pm ET / 10 am PT

In response to newsroom feedback, INN will be sunsetting the use of GiveGab to power NewsMatch.org and NewsForGood.org on January 7, 2022. These websites will be replaced with a public-facing discovery website that will allow visitors to find and connect with INN’s entire network of member organizations.

INN's new discovery website will not process donations. You will instead be able to provide a URL that will redirect visitors to an existing donation page. INN members will also be able to encourage visitors to connect with them on social media or subscribe to a newsletter.

Join us as we share how to manage and update the information that will appear as part of your publication’s profile on the new discovery site, including your donation, social, and subscription links.

Managing your GiveGab Profile on NewsMatch.org

Monday, September 27  • 2:30 pm ET / 11:30 am PT

Join us as we share how to set up your GiveGab page and manage donor data and active recurring gifts once the campaign has ended.

NewsMatch.org is built on the GiveGab. As a Giving Day platform, GiveGab allows participating newsrooms to accept and process one-time and recurring donations during the NewsMatch campaign.

In response to newsroom feedback, INN will be sunsetting the use of GiveGab to power NewsMatch.org and NewsForGood.org on January 7, 2022. However, the site will remain active as donor platform newsrooms can use throughout the NewsMatch 2021 campaign.

Community Calls: Securing a community (local) match

Multiple Dates

While growth in individual giving has been a central marker of success for the program, we also noticed something bigger was happening. NewsMatch also provides a way to secure large contributions from major donors, foundations, and small businesses in the form of community (or “local”) match funds.

Community (or “local” match funds) are donations or pledges that newsrooms secure on their own to increase the total amount of dollars matched by individuals during your NewsMatch campaign.

In this series of community calls, we will break down the local match donor cycle step by step and hear from different types of newsrooms (small, large, national, local, etc.) on how they hacked the process to work for them.

What's your unique value proposition? (Early Bird Session)

Thursday, July 22, 2021  • 1 pm ET / 10 am PT
In partnership with Google News Initiative
A value proposition is your organization’s core DNA. It helps articulate what you stand for (consistently!), can be a guiding post when you have a strategic decision to make, and communicates to your community why they should support your work.
This is where fundraising begins. Your newsroom’s value proposition will ground your case for support during the NewsMatch campaign.
We encourage newsrooms to check out this previous webinar from the Google News Initiative (GNI) on developing and communicating your value proposition ahead of time.
We'll reference the lessons shared to kick off our conversation have an informal conversation with Arun Venkataraman  (GNI), Ariel Zirulnick  (Membership Puzzle Project), and fellow INN members about techniques you can use to both write and leverage your own value proposition in the real world.

Setting up your donor platform and page (Early Bird Session)

Wednesday, July 14, 2021  • 2 pm ET / 11 am PT
Online donation platforms allow website visitors to donate to a cause or organization digitally. In this session, we'll run through best practices and things to look out for when setting yours up for a fundraising campaign.
In previous years, NewsMatch has provided GiveGab as a donor platform for newsrooms to use during their campaign. GiveGab itself is primarily designed for "Giving Days." Not ideal for long-term cultivation and sustainability. That’s why we are encouraging newsrooms to begin thinking through how to build and improve their own systems.
